Your web hosting service vendor provides you with the necessary space to store the various files used in your websites in their server once you publish your website on the internet. You pay your hosting service vendor a monthly service fee for the services rendered. Hosting services are of various types – shared hosting services, dedicated hosting services and collocation hosting services.

What are shared web hosting services?

In shared hosting services, you share your disk space with various other companies in the same server and a usage limit is defined. Your hosting service vendor helps you with the various aspects of system administration like managing your server, installing the necessary software applications, securing data for your website and providing technical support for the daily maintenance of your website. Most web servers in a shared web hosting service are based on the Linux operating system and LAMP.

What is the basic principle behind shared web hosting services?

Hosting services when shared in nature can be implemented using two basic methods, which are shared IP hosting and hosting which has a dedicated IP.

Shared IP hosting: Here your shared web server uses several host names to differentiate the various companies in a single IP hosting. When you own and register your domain name on the server, the details of your website are kept in your Domain Name Server. Your DNS is the server where your IP address is present and therefore your shared web server becomes your DNS.

Dedicated IP hosting: In this shared web hosting server, different companies have different IP addresses. The web server has many layers of network services within one large physical network. By using the different IP addresses of each client, it searches the necessary websites for that specific user.

What are the advantages of using a shared web hosting service?

A shared web hosting service offers its users many advantages such as:

Cost-effectiveness.

The current trends of the economy have forced you as a businessman to trim the extra costs that burden your financial budget. Shared web hosting services provide hosting services at a very economical rate. The cost of maintaining a web server on your own is a huge financial burden. Your shared hosting service provides you with all the services that are required by your website at a nominal rate and provides great bandwidth and internet connectivity for your website to enjoy a good online traffic.

Facilitates technical support.

When you publish your website on the Web, you would realize the various technical problems that you would face daily. Your shared web hosting service vendor has a skilled technical support team that helps you with the technical issues and offers quick solutions. You as a company do not have to maintain a technical resource. The daily maintenance of your website s system administration is undertaken by them and this also includes daily backup of your information.

Enjoy customized services.

Your web hosting service provider would help you customize their services as per your requirements and there would be no extra fees charged.

By using a shared web hosting service or

webhotel-tjeneste

as the Danes call it, the efficiency of your company would improve and

your online business would move to the next level

Film project aims to raise £1 million to make a Creative Commons-licensed film

Posted on December 21, 2017December 21, 2017Categories Uncategorized

Friday, June 23, 2006

Matt Hanson aims to raise £1 million to fund the production of a feature-length film which would be distributed freely via the Internet under a Creative Commons licence, all funded through 50,000 people each donating £25 to the project, which he’s called ‘A Swarm of Angels‘.

No stranger to filmmaking, Matt has produced numerous digital short films, a series of books on digital filmmaking and set up the digital film festival onedotzero, now in its tenth year. He wants to finally make a feature length film, and decided that it was better to turn to the Internet for help and funding rather than plod through the usual ‘development hell‘.

“I wanted to put into practice what I’ve been preaching as a film futurist for ten years, and the technology and Internet infrastructure has just really caught up with that vision now for me to put it into practice.”

The process is inspired by the ‘web 2.0‘ movement, using social and collaborative communities on the Internet. Matt doesn’t see the funding as coming from donations, but as people paying a subscription to become part of a ‘Swarm’. “Rather than the ‘many producer’ model, this is more of an [sic] ‘smart consumer’ model … members can help implement and bring their expertise into play, and so become more actively involved in the production.”

The project hopes to use professional actors and crew, but use qualified members from the swarm as much as possible. The cast and the crew, including any volunteers that get chosen, would be paid for their work on the film, with Matt suggesting that this is “a great way for people to get into the industry”.

Those members not directly involved in making the film can still participate in the process by discussing ideas on a messageboard, and having a vote on certain crucial decisions such as which script gets chosen for production. Asked how he would balance his own creative direction with input from members, Matt said “my vision will lead the project forward and define the parameters, but the Swarm can influence that, and indeed offer improvements or insights I might not think of alone”.

“Remember filmmaking is always a team effort – whether you are Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick or Jean Luc Godard, you promote people within the project that will complement and bring something extra to the vision of the film. Give it more life. With the Swarm we are making that process more democratic, and giving a wider range of people an opportunity to shine and have creative input.”

Members are promised a collector’s edition DVD of the end product and exclusive merchandise, but the main distribution of the film will be via the Internet, using ‘BitTorrent‘ and peer-to-peer networks. “Unlike many other filmmakers, I’m not wedded to cinema projection as the ‘be all and end all’ – I’m much more excited about people viewing remixed versions on their video iPods,” explains Matt.

The ‘remixing’ of the film will be possible thanks to it being distributed under a Creative Commons licence. Matt suggests that the ‘younger generation’ is more used to being involved with and interacting with entertainment, and points to remixes of the Star Wars films (eg ‘The Phantom Edit‘) as an example of these ‘mashups’. “At the end of the project I would love to have an event that showcased five wildly different versions of the film, different visions from people other than my definitive initial edit,” he suggests. The licence will be for non-commercial use only, however, and so commercial TV stations would still have to pay in order to screen the film.

The project is partly inspired by the success of ‘The Million Dollar Homepage‘, in which British student Alex Tew aimed to raise a million dollars to fund his university education, simply by selling advertising space on a single web page. The publicity surrounding the idea, coupled with the ‘viral’ effect of Internet users passing the page on, meant that he eventually managed to make himself the million dollars.

The success of these projects partly seems to depend on them being interesting and original enough to attract enough attention, and it’s often difficult to see how they could be repeated. Copy-cat versions of the million dollar homepage have so far failed to hugely take off. When asked about this idea, Matt responded “I already expect people to copy the model we are inventing with A Swarm of Angels – it’s a perfect way to create cult media, where the director gets more creative control and organically funds a project, and the fans of the project get more involvement within it. If the market gets too crowded with these projects though, then they’ll have to be packaged differently to stand out. But that’s what traditional film and media projects need to do anyway.”

Over 600 members have signed up to the ‘swarm’ so far, which Matt comments is already an early success, but 50,000 members in total will be needed in order to fully fund the £1 million budget. Matt suggests that getting to the next stage, of reaching 1,000 members, followed by the phase of getting 5,000 members, will be the hardest part, as after that the film will be more ‘tangible’. He expects to raise the full budget, but comments that if the fundraising stalls, “options will be presented by advisors and The Swarm, and based on some kind of consensus we’ll come up with the best option for moving forward.”

Traditionally, independent films are funded either through persuading wealthy individuals to invest, who sometimes are sometimes given ‘Executive Producer‘ credits, or through organisations like the UK Film Council, who award funds from the National Lottery. A tax credit for producers making small films in the UK was announced by the government in 2005, in a bid to give a boost to the UK independent film industry.

Matt says that the film will be “a thriller with soft science fiction elements”, which he says will suit his target audience. “But it will have an indie edginess to it, and be far more visually inventive than you would get with a ‘normal’ British independent feature.” Contributors to the project include artists The Kleptones, who will help with the soundtrack, comic book writer Warren Ellis and documentary filmmaker Grant Gee.

The Swarm of Angels project is online at aswarmofangels.com and costs £25 as an individual to become a member.

Google introduces the ‘+1’ button

Posted on December 21, 2017December 21, 2017Categories Uncategorized

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

On Monday, Google added the “+1” button to its search results. It works similarly to the Facebook “Like” button. Today, Google began planning to add it to text ads, globally known as “AdSense”.

Google Product Manager Nick Radicevic commented at Google’s AdSense blog: “Today, +1’s will start appearing on Google search pages globally. …. We’ll be starting off with sites like google.co.uk, google.de, google.jp and google.fr, then expanding quickly to most other Google search sites soon after.”

Individual websites also can use this feature. People with a Google account can add a “+1” button to their personal websites. If a large number of readers click the button, the site will move closer to the top in Google search results.

Google also plans to eventually add the “+1” button to its text advertisements, globally known as “AdWords”. A user would be able to add rank to an ad and optionally make it available at their Google profile.

Google expects the experiment to be useful to improve search results and to combat poor websites and content farms.

Darcy Richardson to seek Reform Party presidential nomination

Posted on December 21, 2017December 21, 2017Categories Uncategorized

Friday, June 15, 2012

Darcy Richardson, the historian who challenged U.S. President Barack Obama in several 2012 Democratic Party primary races, has notified Wikinews he will now “actively seek” the presidential nominations of the Reform Party of the United States of America and several third parties with single-state ballot access.

Richardson initially ran as a progressive alternative to Obama, concerned largely with the president’s economic policies. Discussing his qualms in detail during a November 2011 Wikinews interview, Richardson cited Obama’s extension of the Bush tax cuts, his inability to include a public option in his health care bill, his failure to renew the Glass-Steagall Act and pass cap-and-trade legislation, and his seeming reluctance to defend Social Security and Medicare. He also mentioned Obama’s continued use of the Guantanamo Bay detention camp and prosecution of the War in Afghanistan.

As a Democrat, Richardson qualified for primary ballots in New Hampshire, Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas. His strongest showing proportionally came in Oklahoma, where he won 6.36 percent of the vote. Overall he received a total of 41,386 votes in the five states, 25,296 of which came during the May 29 Texas primary, after he had already suspended his campaign.

Last April, Richardson ceased all campaign operations, and shifted focus to his news blog Uncovered Politics. At the time, he said he planned to support Americans Elect and Reform Party presidential candidate Buddy Roemer, in part due to his economic plans, such as the reinstatement of Glass-Steagall. Richardson described Roemer as a “straight-talking, anti-Wall Street former governor of Louisiana who is … head and shoulders above any other potential third-party candidate in his conception of the current economic crisis.”

After Roemer ended his presidential campaign as a whole following Americans Elect’s board decision to not nominate a 2012 ticket, Richardson was left to decide whether to support Obama’s re-election or reconsider his own campaign. He ultimately chose to relaunch his campaign, and like Roemer, run for Reform Party nomination. He concluded:

I can’t in good conscience support President Obama’s re-election. He’s a good man, but entirely out of his league in putting the country on a path to economic recovery. The American people are hurting, and they’re hurting badly. President Obama squandered the first two years of his presidency on a health care bill that nobody wanted while essentially ignoring the private sector in his $787 billion stimulus package in 2009 — legislation that did little other than preserve the bloated payrolls of public sector employees across the country. We need a President who understands what it will take to end this depression, somebody with extensive private sector experience. Unlike President Obama, I have spent my entire life in the business community.

Currently, six other individuals are seeking the Reform Party presidential nomination: Blake Ashby, who challenged President Bush in the 2004 Republican primaries; fitness model Andre Barnett, the only candidate remaining who participated in the January 2012 Wikinews Reform Party forum; Dow Chemical worker Edward Chlapowski; consultant Kenneth Cross; economic adviser Dick McCormick; and estimator Michael Edwin Whitley.

The Reform Party currently has ballot access in four states, but with the aim of achieving access in a dozen, Richardson will also compete for the nominations of ballot-qualified third parties with single-state access elsewhere.

The New Credit Regime: How will Bad Credit Car Buyers Benefit?

by

Williams Orchard

Buying a car and arranging for an auto loan go hand in hand. Whether it is your first car or your fifth car, you will require an auto loan at some point. While arranging for an auto loan, your credit score becomes the yardstick to measure your credit worthiness. A bad credit rating means auto loan rejection. However, there is a way out. Three major credit rating companies, namely, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion have decided to eliminate and exclude certain customer information from the credit reports. And, it will have a positive impact on your credit score.

The New Regime: Whats in it for Bad Credit Car Buyers?

1) Upsurge in Credit Scores

The new change relates to all civil debts and many tax liens. Civil debts and tax liens are enlisted under Public Records Section of the credit report as they are unpaid tax bills. Unless there is elaboration of information, the credit bureaus will remove the debts and liens from ones credit score. As a result, those who suffer from a bad credit score will see a hike in their score by approximately 20 points.

2) Higher Probability of Approval

The elimination of the civil debts and tax liens will increase your credit score. As a result, the chances of obtaining an auto loan will improve for bad credit car buyers. The new credit policy is implemented from 1st of July, 2017. Make sure that you have revised your credit report in order to get a better shot at getting approval for an auto loan.

3) Favorable Interest Rates

Lenders charge bad credit car buyers with high interest rates due to a damaged credit history. However, once your credit score increases, the interest rates will decrease. Therefore, the new credit regime will help bad credit car buyers to obtain an auto loan with favorable interest rates.

4) Improved Car Choices

The car choices for a credit challenged individual are limited. Lenders are comfortable to lend out money for a used car. However, the increase in the credit score due to the new regime can bring multiple car choices for a buyer. A bad credit car buyer with an increased credit score can avail an auto loan for a new car as well as a used car. Thus, a bad credit car buyer will have multiple car options to choose from.

Any change in any system causes panic. As a result, lenders will become cautious in approving future auto loans. Additionally, the cut off rates for credit approval may take a hike. However, the 1st July credit change will largely benefit bad credit car buyers. The increase in your credit score will be a means to improve your credit-worthiness in the eyes of your lender. Considering the new changes, the imperative step would be to know your current credit score and grab every opportunity to improve it. An improved credit score will be an easy way to avail an auto loan for your next dream car.

Six-year-old boy on vacation in Venezuela dies in plane crash

Posted on December 20, 2017December 20, 2017Categories Uncategorized

Sunday, April 19, 2009

Six-year-old Thomas David Horne from the United Kingdom has died and eleven other British tourists were injured Friday when their plane crashed in Canaima National Park in Venezuela. They were on a sight seeing tour of the world’s tallest waterfalls, the Angel Falls.

The single engine, nine-seater Cessna 208 Caravan, lifted off shortly before the end of the runway, lost power, and then surged briefly before plummeting into the Venezuelan jungle in front of the 3,200 ft falls.

“It started to take off and we sensed it was losing power. Then it seemed to get it back and lifted off just 200 metres before the end of the runway. Then it dived into the trees,” reported Makeli Freire, a park tour guide.

Three of the injured sustained serious injuries, while the others suffered mainly broken bones. Thomas Horne, who sustained serious head injuries, died on the way to a local hospital. The pilot, co-pilot and tour guide were among the injured. Everyone on board was flown to Ciudad Bolívar, the capital city of Venezuela’s Bolívar state, where they were treated for their injuries. Among the injured were Thomas’s mother and father Jane and David who were among those who had broken bones. They were British tourists finishing up a two week holiday to Venezuela.

“The young boy died as he was being flown to hospital. His parents are both physically OK but are completely distraught over the loss of their son,” said Maiker Puga, of the Ciudad Bolivar clinic.

Liz and her husband Keith Grainger and S. Phillips, also British tourists, were also injured in the crash. The names of the three other British tourists and the three person crew who were injured have not been released at this time.

The plane tour was offered by First Choice, a division of TUI Travel PLC who extended their “heartfelt sympathy to family and friends during this deeply sad time.” LTA airline has suspended further flights until the investigation is concluded.

June Holman, Thomas’s aunt who was not on holidays said, that “there is nothing worse than losing a loved one, especially not a young child with their whole life ahead of them. The thoughts of us all are with his parents Jane and Dave at this very sad time.”

Frame And Fortune: The True Value Of Custom Picture Frames

Posted on December 18, 2017November 8, 2018Categories Arts And Crafts

By Michelle Cardello

If youre thinking about adding some new artwork to your walls or looking for a way to preserve some treasured family photos, consider investing in custom picture frames. Its not as expensive as you might think, especially when you consider the overall benefits of working with a professional to add just the right finishing touch to your decor.

Art helps to create a more personalized environment in the home. It reflects individual tastes and interests and can bring years of pleasure whether its an original oil painting for over the living room fireplace or a great flea market find that you want to add to your bedroom wall. The same is true for those family photographs that have been handed down through the generations or the pictures you snapped last month on your Caribbean vacation.

By investing in custom picture frames, you provide your art or photographs with an appropriate showcase; one that reflects your taste and style just as much, if not more so, than the pieces on display. After all, you wouldnt expect to see the original Mona Lisa thumb-tacked to a wall in the Louvre, would you? So, why would you provide anything less than the appropriate showcase in your home for something that is just as important to you?

Where you decide to have your artwork framed is a matter of individual choice. Sometimes, its easy to find a custom framing store no further away than the local mall. Or, the yellow pages may offer you a choice of trades people in your town who create custom picture frames. In addition, there are numerous Web sites on the Internet that welcome questions ranging from what type of frame to buy to how custom picture frames are actually constructed. Doing a little homework ahead of time, whether on the Internet or at the local library, will allow you to ask more knowledgeable questions when you get ready to proceed, whether you want a metal frame in a matte finish to something more elaborate in natural wood.

Whoever you choose to consult and ultimately create your frames, remember to take your time and select the most appropriate styles because, chances are, they will be a part of your dcor for many years. If your budget is limited, there are simple, inexpensive frames that can still complement your dcor. Costs can range from under $100 into the thousands, depending on the type you select and the size of the picture.

An experienced framer can advise you on the different styles of custom picture frames that range from the traditional to the contemporary in colors that vary from brushed gold to vibrant shades of red, or include all types of wood finishes. Some styles are virtually invisible but still provide needed support and protection for your investment.

You want to pick a color that coordinates with the rest of the furniture in a particular room. But, even more important, you should select a style of frame that will complement the art, not overwhelm or clash with it. So, if you were thinking about adding an ornate gilt-edge frame to that abstract contemporary piece you want to display in your dining room, you might want to spend some time talking first to a professional, who can assist you accordingly. An additional touch to consider when having a piece custom framed is a matte insert, a colored sheet of heavy cardboard, which creates an even more distinctive look for the picture when combined with the right type of frame. But, it is key to remember that the matte comes second to the art, so its often best to stick with a neutral tone.

Having custom picture frames constructed for your art might seem a little extravagant to some but it is an ideal way to preserve something that you enjoy. In the end, it all comes down to individual taste. Whether you enjoy formal surroundings or a more eclectic environment, there is no right or wrong style–just whatever works best for you.

BellSouth denies phone records were handed over to the NSA

Posted on December 18, 2017December 18, 2017Categories Uncategorized

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

BellSouth, said in a statement yesterday that the telecommunications company did not hand over customer call records to the National Security Agency or NSA. On May 11, 2006, USA Today reported that the NSA collected millions of call logs from telecommunications companies in 2001 under a contract the NSA claims to have had with the company.

BellSouth said that they conducted a “internal review” and that the review “confirmed no such contract exists and we have not provided bulk customer calling records to the NSA,” said Jeff Battcher, spokesman for BellSouth.

“We do not believe that any final review will turn up anything different from what we have currently found. There is no link between the NSA and BellSouth that we can find in what we feel is a very exhaustive review. We wouldn’t have made this bold statement if we weren’t confident about this,” added Battcher.

AT&T and Verizon Communications were also said to have handed over customer call logs, but Verizon said on Friday that they don’t “and will not, provide any government agency unfettered access to our customer records or provide information to the government under circumstances that would allow a fishing expedition.”

On Monday, Massachusetts Representative Edward Markey of the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on telecommunications asked for help from the Federal Communications Commission or FCC, to investigate whether Verizon, AT&T, and BellSouth violated privacy rights under communication laws and regulations.
