Fake Jackson suicide email hides virus

An e-mail virus affecting Microsoft Windows is currently making the rounds, trying to ensnare victims by claiming that pop-star Michael Jackson has attempted suicide.

The message itself hopes to catch people’s attention, because of the huge interest in his on-going child abuse trial. The fake message contains a web link that supposedly links to Mr Jackson’s suicide note.

A security consultant from security firm Sophos says “That may not surprise people who think it might contain genuine breaking news about Michael Jackson,” and that “The sick minds behind viruses and other malware often exploit celebrity names and news stories in an attempt to infect as many people as possible,” said Ms Theriault.

She urged users to be very wary when opening e-mail attachments in unsolicited e-mail messages.

The idea of having a fishing boat to enjoy on weekends is appealing. While checking out local boats on the market, the prospective buyer comes across several Aluminum Fishing Boats For Sale. Here are some tips to help determine if one of those boats is the best choice.

A Lightweight Solution

One of the points in favor of those Aluminum Fishing Boats For Sale is that they are all lightweight. That can be very important when there is not always a landing around for launching the boat. Since the aluminum boat does not weigh a lot, the user will find it easier to slide off a trailer and ease off the bank of the river and into the water.

Keep in mind that the fact the boat does not weigh a lot also means it will be easier to store when not in use. If the plan is to use the second floor of a garage as the off-season home for the boat, it will not be as difficult to move into the space or to extract when warm weather returns.

Ideal for Fresh Water Fishing

Aluminum is a great choice when the user enjoys fresh water fishing. The metal will hold up well to constant exposure to the water and provide years of reliable service.

Easy Maintenance

One of the more appealing characteristics of aluminum fishing boats is the fact that they are not hard to maintain. Little dings can be removed from the body with relative ease. Some paint and sealant will help to minimize any issues with problems around the rivets. Since it does not take much time or effort to keep the boat in good shape, that leaves more time to go fishing.

Low Price

Compared to other types of small fishing boats, aluminum is a cost effective way to go. The lower price tag means more money to spend on equipment and lures.

For anyone who is looking for a sturdy fishing boat, visit munsonboats.com and check out the options. After settling on a design, it will be easy enough to arrange for payment and delivery. Doing so will mean everything is ready to enjoy plenty of fishing in the months to come. You can also visit them on YouTube for more information.

A compilation of brief news reports for Monday, May 7, 2007.

A 30 meter section of a gas pipeline in Luka (near Kiev) in Ukraine has been destroyed by an explosion. Although supplies to Europe via this pipeline have stopped, Ukrainian Energy Minister Georgi E. Boyko said that supplies to Europe would not be affected.

“There are no changes in volumes of gas being transported,” Yuri Korolchuk said. “Volumes due to pass through the damaged section are being redirected through the Soyuz pipeline.”

Normal flows are reported in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Romania.

Copper prices are rising. Between record copper imports from China, and a mining strike in Peru, the prices have climbed to over $8100 (United States dollars) a tonne, for a gain of $575 dollars over the last week. However the upward trend is not new, it has been climbing for quite some time. In April 2003, the price of copper was under $2000 a tonne.

The metal market has been tending up due to growth in the Chinese industrial production. This trickles down to the local level, where the buying price at scrap yards is ever climbing, making scrap metal collection a more profitable endeavour for individual people using pick up trucks or other such vehicles to collect and cash in the scrap metal at metal buying yards. It can be collected via agreements with businesses, from the garbage, or, sometimes, by theft.

Copper prices fell today on the NYMEX commodity exchange from US$3.7545 per pound to US$3.7125 based on the July futures contract.

Woman finds human finger in bowl of chili at Wendy’s restaurant

Thursday, March 24, 2005

San Jose, California — A woman eating a bowl of chili at a Wendy’s restaurant bit into a chewy bit that turned out to be a human finger. She immediately spat it out, warned other patrons to stop eating, and upon recognizing the object as a finger, vomited.

“I’m more of a Carl’s Jr. person,” the 39-year-old Las Vegas woman, Anna Ayala, told Knight Ridder. She said this incident was her first visit to a Wendy’s restaurant. Ayala described how she found the finger, “Suddenly something crunchy was in my mouth,” she continued, “and I spit it out.”

According to Devina Cordero, 20, after Ayala found the finger, she ran up to her and Cordero’s boyfriend and said, “Don’t eat it! Look, there’s a human finger in our chili.”

“We went up to the counter and they told us it was a vegetable,” Cordero continued. “The people from Wendy’s were poking it with a spoon.”

The restaurant is located at 1405 Monterey Highway, just south of downtown San Jose.

Wikinews reporter David Vasquez drove his car up to the drive-thru menu and found that chili was still on the menu, at a price of US$1.19 for a small serving. He also witnessed workers unloading supplies from a semi-trailer truck in the restaurant’s parking lot, and carting them into the back door of the establishment.

According to Ben Gale, director of environmental health for Santa Clara County, the finger did not come from any of the employees at the restaurant. “We asked everybody to show us they have 10 fingers and everything is OK there,” he said. The found portion of the finger likely belonged to a woman because of its long and manicured fingernail, also found in the food.

Officials seized the food supply at the restaurant and are tracing it back to the manufacturer, where they believe the finger may have gotten mixed in with the raw ingredients used to prepare the chili. The restaurant’s operators were later permitted to re-open after preparing new chili prepared from fresh ingredients.

As this story was filed, there was no mention of the incident on the Wendy’s corporate web site. Wendy’s issued a statement through a spokesman.

“Food safety is of utmost importance to us,” said Wendy’s spokesman Joe Desmond. He referred to the incident as an “unsubstantiated claim.”

“We are cooperating fully with the local police and health departments with their investigation. It’s important not to jump to conclusions. Here at Wendy’s we plan to do right by our customers,” Desmond said.

According to county health officials, the unfortunate woman who bit into the finger is doing fine, despite her initial reaction. Officials also noted that the finger would have been cooked at a high enough temperature to destroy any viruses.

The Santa Clara county medical examiner reported that the finger had a solid fingerprint, although investigators did not say if a search of fingerprint databases would be performed to find the owner of the finger.

Posted on September 24, 2021September 25, 2021Categories Uncategorized

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

In her first election promise, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard specifically offered parents tax breaks of up to A$800 to cover the school uniforms of their children.

Gillard aims to pledge $220 million over four years to expand the current tax breaks to cover refunds each worth $390 for primary school uniforms and $779 for high school uniforms, as well as refunds for other school equipment like texts books and computers. “We all know that uniforms can be an expensive part of sending kids to school, but this change, along with the existing refund for textbooks and computers, will help families with that cost,” stated Gillard.

This comes amongst heavy speculation that a federal election is to be called in the coming days. Education Minister Simon Crean stated that the new proposal is an “important recognition of the cost of school uniforms and it builds on something that we have established in Government but intend extending if we’re [re-]elected …”

As it stands, 1.7 million Australian children are assisted by the current tax breaks; this proposal could extend coverage to an additional million children. The tax breaks will not be available until after the lodging of the 2012–13 tax returns.

GM recalls 1.3 million cars over steering issues

Posted on September 21, 2021September 22, 2021Categories Uncategorized

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

General Motors (GM) announced on Tuesday a recall of 1.3 million Chevrolet and Pontiac cars in the US, Mexico, and Canada over problems with the power steering system.

Recalling these vehicles is the right thing to do for our customers’ peace of mind

The models, the 2005–2010 Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007–2010 Pontiac G5 in the US, the 2005–2006 Pontiac Pursuit in Canada and the 2005–2006 Pontiac G4 in Mexico, were affected by a fault that causes the power steering in the vehicles to fail. The company says that cars can still be safely controlled even after the loss of power steering, although more effort to turn the car would be required.

GM is currently working on developing a fix for the problem, after having conducted an internal investigation for more than a year, beginning last January. In addition to GM’s investigation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also conducted an investigation on the Cobalt, which began in January 2010. The investigation was begun after more than a thousand complaints about the model were received by the agency, including reports of 14 crashes caused by the fault. GM contacted the NHTSA about the problem on Monday.

GM blamed the issues on an external supplier partially owned by Toyota, another company currently in the process of a major recall of more than eight million vehicles. According to GM vice-chairman Bob Lutz, the supplier, which was not named, had not met “all requirements for reliability and durability.” In his comments, given at the Geneva Motor Show, Lutz also said that financial responsibility for the recalls had yet to be determined.

Man calls for seizure of Justice Souter home, under eminent domain ruling

Posted on September 20, 2021September 21, 2021Categories Uncategorized

Friday, July 1, 2005

In the wake of a United States Supreme Court ruling in Kelo v. New London on eminent domain last week, a California man has proposed that Justice David Souter‘s New Hampshire home be seized by the state and a hotel be built on the site. Logan Darrow Clements faxed a letter to town officials in Weare, New Hampshire June 28, 2005 that justified the action as such:

“The justification for such an eminent domain action is that our hotel will better serve the public interest as it will bring in economic development and higher tax revenue to Weare.”

Justice Souter, who was in the majority ruling in the Kelo case, has lived at the farmhouse in Weare since he was 11 years old. Clements indicated that it was necessary to build on that location because “it is a unique site being the home of someone largely responsible for destroying property rights for all Americans.” The action has given rise to a great deal of support nationwide, as many are writing to the councilors of the small town of Weare to voice their approval for the proposal.

The proposal for the “Lost Liberty Hotel“, as it is to be called, features a number of components which seem to focus on the libertarian leanings of its designer. A dining room, called the “Just Desserts Cafe” and a museum based on the “loss of freedom in America” are two such components. Instead of a Bible provided by the Gideons (a standard item placed in most American hotel rooms), each guest will receive a free copy of Ayn Rand‘s novel Atlas Shrugged.

How To Win At The Casino A Trusted Gambling Strategy

Posted on September 19, 2021September 20, 2021Categories Law Firm

By Andy Follin

As Jane Austen said, ‘it is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, will lose it all at the casino unless he knows what he’s doing.’

And if she didn’t, she should have.

To go further, it is a truth universally acknowledged that casinos stay in business because gamblers don’t know when they’re beaten.

The best way to win at the casino? It’s the only way – know when to stop.

If you’re going to gamble, you have to accept the inescapable fact that in the long run the casinos always win.

So why do I – and countless millions – still gamble? Because in the short term the casinos can sometimes lose.

The key to successful gambling is knowing when to stop – whether you’re winning or losing. The desire to keep chasing even bigger profits or recoup growing losses is very strong. It’s no surprise that some call it gambling fever.

Watching a documentary the other night about gamblers in Las Vegas, I was struck by how many times players used the phrase ‘Give up because I’m losing? No way-I’m not a quitter.’ As the saying goes, Vegas wasn’t built on casinos’ losses.

My rules for successful – and enjoyable – gambling are:

1. Know your games. This may sound obvious, but many people have lost money learning the ins and outs of a game. The ability to play for free is one of the great advantages of online casinos, but one that gamblers don’t often make sufficient use of. Use the no-risk free play games to make sure you know the rules, the odds, the good bets and bad bets, and to practice any strategy or system you may have seen recommended.

2. Always set a time limit on your sessions, regardless of how you’re doing. Keep them fairly short, and change games and /or bets frequently.

3. Set a win limit and loss limit – and stick to them absolutely. Allow yourself the potential to win at least twice what you’ll allow yourself to lose. So if your session loss limit is 50, allow yourself to win 100. Once you’re up by more than your loss limit (which in this example would be 60), put the loss limit to one side and do not touch it – even if your streak comes to an end. That way you’re guaranteed to win as much as a losing session will cost.

4. Accept that sometimes – maybe most times – you’re going to stop at a loss and walk away from the table with less than you came with. This is the difficult part for unsuccessful gamblers, but the rule that sets apart the professionals.

5. Enjoy yourself! Remember, we’re leisure gamblers, not professional blackjack players. We do this for fun, because we enjoy the atmosphere, the thrill, the risks, not because we’re trying to get rich.

I love gambling – despite the stigma attached to it – and I enjoy it because I have no expectations of it. It’s just a harmless hobby that takes a few pounds from me now and again but which provides me with hours of entertainment. Try saying that about alcohol or cigarettes!
