India discontinues ?500, ?1000 denominations; releases ?2000 and new ?500 bills

On Wednesday, India demonetised ?500 (about US$7.50) and ?1000 notes, announced as a measure to fight corruption, fake notes, and black money. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian citizens late Tuesday, and said 500 and 1000 rupee notes would cease to be legal tender at midnight.

To minimise possible difficulties to citizens, transactions using old 500 and 1000 rupee notes were accepted at government hospitals, railway ticket bookings, government buses, and airports. The notes were also accepted at public-sector petrol-pumps, government-authorised consumer co-operative stores, milk booths authorised by State governments, and cremation grounds till Friday midnight. These shops were obliged to have a record of their stocks and sales.

In his announcement, Modi said, “For your immediate needs, you can go to any bank, head post office or sub post office, show your identity proof like Aadhar card, voter’s card, ration card, passport, income tax PAN card number or other approved proofs and exchange your old 500 or thousand rupee notes for new notes.” ((hi))Hindi language: ??????? ???????? ?? ??? ???? ?? ?? ?? ???? ?? ?????? ????? ?? ??? ??? ?????? ????? ?? ??? ?? ????? ?? ??? ?????? ?? ?? ???? ?? ???? ?? ?????? ?? ?? ??? ?? ?? ?????? ?? ???? ????? ????, ???? ??, ???? ?????, ?????? ?????, ???? ?????, ????????, ???? ????? ??? ????? ??????? ???? ?? ??? ??? ??? ???? ?? ??? ??? ???? ???

Modi also announced those who failed to change their currency till December 30 can exchange the notes at Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s office along with a declaration form till March 31. The notes can be exchanged till December 30 at any branch of any bank across India.

By Saturday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said demonetised money equivalent to almost US$30 billion was deposited in banks across India. According to estimate, the old notes accounted for 85% of the total money in circulation. New 500 rupee and 2000 rupee notes are to be issued. Modi said RBI would exercise caution from past experience and limit the circulation of large-value notes.

International tourists could purchase up to 5000 rupees using the old notes at airport exchanges till Friday.

A limit was imposed on cash withdrawal; a maximum of 10000 rupees each day, and 20000 rupees each week, can be withdrawn. Moreover, from Thursday (November 10) till November 24, 4000 rupees can be exchanged in the banks and post offices. The amount is credited to the bank account.

Government workers were informed about demonetising when the announcement was made. Modi announced all banks would remain closed for public work on Wednesday.

In the United States, Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election on Tuesday, immediately after which stock markets dropped globally. Following the US election and demonetising the money, the Indian stock market fell by 1700 points on Wednesday. Sensex lost 1,688.69 points and Nifty lost 111.55 points on the same day. Indian technology sector companies experienced loss. TCS suffered 4.93% loss and Infosys lost 2.74%.

The Indian rupee is also used in the neighbouring countries of Bhutan and Nepal. The border area uses Indian currency for day-to-day transactions. The Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan (RMA) has announced the exchange of old notes will be facilitated till December 15. RMA governor Dasho Penjore informed Indian news site The Wire, “We do not know exactly how much Indian currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 is in circulation in Bhutan. We will get a better idea after the deadline to deposit their amount”. RMA has 30% of its international exchange reserve in Indian rupees. Nepal Rastra Bank directed all Nepali banks to stop conducting transactions using the Indian rupee.

On Thursday, there were long queues in front of ATMs and banks to exchange the old notes and withdraw money. BBC reported some banks ran out of cash. Police were called to some banks to maintain discipline. Banks were open on Saturday and Sunday for money exchange.

Shops did not accept the old 500 and 1000 rupee notes. Some emphasised cash-less transaction as well. BBC reported some traders and small business owners in Delhi threatened to call a strike as this move affected their business.

eRetail websites like Amazon and Flipkart announced they would not accept the old 500 and 1000 rupee notes on Cash on Delivery orders. Amazon also announced 15% discount on gift cards worth 500 or 1000 rupees.

The government ceased all transactions using the old 500 and 1000 rupee notes before Saturday. But a Wikinews correspondent noticed a jeweler shop accepting the demonetised notes on Saturday. When questioned, the jeweler said they were accepting the old notes only on purchase. When the correspondent, who did not identify as a reporter to the shop owners, said the old 500 and 1000 rupee notes were not legal money, they said they will exchange the notes in a bank since there were 50 days to exchange with a new and legal tender. They refused to exchange old 500 rupee notes with change, asserting the customer needs to buy merchandise from their shop.

Guinean military leader in ‘favourable’ condition after attempted assassination

Posted on December 22, 2021December 23, 2021Categories Uncategorized

Monday, December 7, 2009

Morocco said earlier today that Guinea’s military ruler, Moussa Dadis Camara, has undergone successful surgery for gunshot wounds sustained on Thursday in an apparent assassination attempt. Guinea’s military government is offering a reward for the capture of the former head of the presidential guard whose men are accused of carrying out the attack.

The inspector of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces’ health services said that Camara has had successful surgery for head trauma. In a statement issued by Morocco’s official press agency, Dr. Ali Abrouq said Camara’s condition is “not worrying.”

“The current health condition of the Guinean president does not inspire concern,” Abrouq noted in a statement. “The result of the operation is favorable.”

Camara flew to Morocco on Friday after being shot the day before by men loyal to his former aide-de-camp, Lieutenant Aboubacar Sidiki Diakite, who is also known as Toumba. Toumba escaped the attack, and is still at large with a group of the presidential guard.

Harouna Kone, a spokesman for the junta, commented that Camara should be able to return to Guinea by Wednesday. “The president is doing very well and we expecting that he will come back maybe on Wednesday […] he is in the Royal Hospital of Rabat, and I think that everything is well there. He called last night and [spoke] with his minister of communication and they discussed about something,” he said, as quoted by the Voice of America news agency.

Security forces, meanwhile, are patrolling Guinea’s borders in search of Toumba, and the government is offering a reward for information leading to his capture.

Guinea’s vice-president and defense minister, General Sekouba Konate, became the interim leader following the attempted assassination.

Thursday’s shooting followed an argument between Toumba and Camara about who should take responsibility for the killing of opposition demonstrators two months ago. Witnesses say Toumba gave the order for the presidential guard to open fire on people protesting Camara’s expected presidential candidacy.

Local human rights groups said that at least 157 people were killed on September 28; the military put the number at 57 people.

What Sets A Club In Atlanta Apart From The Rest

Posted on December 21, 2021December 22, 2021Categories Music Chart

byalex

Atlanta happens to be the most populated city in Georgia, USA. It is the hotbed of entertainment. If you happen to be a party animal, then hop into a club in Atlanta and sample the rich menu on offer. Most of the top notch clubs are located in the midtown area. So popular is the city that it has been nicknamed the “Mecca” of nightlife. You will not fail to come across a club that suits your taste. Here are a few things to be on the lookout for:

Not every club in Atlanta has a good ambience. The good news is that most of them do. The clubbing industry is so competitive. Partygoers would like the clubs they are associated with to be well designed. The lighting must be perfect. Creating the right atmosphere is a critical component in deciding whether you will make it as a club owner.

Ideally, a club in Atlanta is supposed to have peak activities on Friday evenings and Saturday nights. There are those that open midweek for the ladies night. In order to attract more clientele, a club needs to hire a deejay who knows how to read the crowd’s mood. The other alternative would be to have themed nights. For example, Friday night may feature soul music while Saturday could start off with old school culminating in pulsating hip hop.

The bar is at the core of every club. It should be well stocked with beers, wines, spirits and liqueur. Barmen must be good at mixing cocktails. The service should be fast enough. What most clubs do is to recruit beautifully dressed waitresses Such tactics appeal to young revelers. It feels good to be served by a cute and fashionably dressed waitress

Location is very important. A club that is located in Midtown Atlanta is bound to attract more partygoers than one that is way out of town. Though some people prefer to hang out in clubs that are not within town. It is a phenomenon which is difficult to understand due to varied customer preferences. All the same, whether in town or out, it should be at a strategic location.

TV screens. The trend has caught up in every club in Atlanta. Huge LCD screens on all corners keep revelers glued. These are set on different channels as relayed via satellite. Some show music videos while others are on sports. In addition to this is the music system. It has to be state-of-the art. Even if a club has a good deejay, a poorly set up music system kills the show.

Live performances. Clubs that host top artists are usually rated highly than those which do not.

Friday, October 7, 2005

On Tuesday, Google and Sun Microsystems announced that they are working to get software such as Google Toolbar and OpenOffice.org (both products of Google and Sun Microsystems, respectively) more widely available. The companies stated that this collaboration will make software by each respective company more enhanced. The New York Times reports that this event is to help compete with Microsoft, although they were not explicitly mentioned at a press conference.

Sun and Google agreed to explore opportunities to promote and develop Sun technologies. Despite being a clear announcement, the exact effects of this deal are not yet known. It is known, however, that Java programming software will be equipped with Google Toolbar, and that Google will purchase more from Sun.

A Favorite Search On Craigslist &Amp; Kijiji The Famed Honda Nsx Ferrari Wannabee

Posted on December 16, 2021December 17, 2021Categories Business Energy Advice

By Limo Smith

The famed Honda NSX. More than one ‘car guy’ has spent hours and even days scouring online on Craigslist & kijiji looking for more than a perfect specimen of a Honda NSX. Often it’s to no avail as well one may well suspect. For its seems Honda NSX in this special condition are as rare as hen’s teeth.

It seems that at the height of the 1980’s economic boon, when all things looked possible to Japanese, Honda decided to take on Ferrari at their own ‘game’. Having studied the latest in 328GTB’s , Honda decided that it could do more than one better in one upmanship – and thus developed this new mid-engined creation – the Honda ‘NXS’. Along with most other supercars of this period , the NSX’s general layout was might be termed ‘conventional’ – it was a two-seater , the engine was behind the seats driving the rear wheels, there was all-independent suspension , and the main air intakes for the engine were to be on the flanks.

Honda known for being itself then added their own touches as a means of improving the roadster. Instead of a separate chassis, there was carefully detailed lightweight aluminum monocoque, which more than ensured that the NSX was much lighter – in the ranges of 136 kg or 300 pounds – that if had been crafted in standard run of the mill, ordinary pressed steel. The engine as well , was no stick in the mud – was the already well known and track proven aluminum four-cam V6 whose smaller capacity ancestors had already driven down the road and highway such vehicles as the Rover 827 executive saloons as well as the ‘Honda Legend’. The engine mechanical drive train layout was that it was mounted transversely (Ferrari 308/328 style layout) and drove the rear wheels via a five-speed transmission layout.

It was said and noted in the auto trade that compared with the Ferrari, the NSX was indeed different in many ways. Purists suggested that Honda had engineered all the soul and passion out of the vehicle. Even so if this were true as stated they had added in standard run of mill Honda Japanese car reliability. The trade off in the mix of sans soul that Honda had also engineered in a good measure of comfort, reliability and a driver friendly cabin with good ventilation.

Structurally and functionally, the NSX road car hardly ever put a foot wrong, however among purists it had to constantly struggle overall to make its real mark and stamp in that market and among those Ferrari class niche auto owners.

True there was nothing wrong with its engineering, its behavior or performance it had one major failing that Honda could never solve. That was it was not technically nor could ever be a ‘real (dyed in the wool) Ferrari’. It’s a Honda – an upscale mass market vehicle. Perhaps the Japanese auto makers learned a most important lesson from the NSX exercise and experience. True they had a most loyal following of their basic product line, these consumers worked up their product lines – much like GM had pioneered years before. New auto owners started with perhaps a used GM, then a new Chevrolet from a showroom as a luxury. As they progressed and prospered in life they hopefully went up the product tree from the Chevrolet to Pontiac, Oldsmobile or Buick to hopefully one day the ultimate vehicle – the Cadillac. The Japanese product makers thinking they had a solidly earned brand named hoped to piggyback and indeed enlarge and upscale their brand name. Yet it was the mass market appeal of good value and affordability along with reliability and solidness that was a drawback. Later upscale premium vehicles from the major Japanese auto makers – Toyota, Nissan (Datsun) and in this case Honda all carried separate badges entirely separate and yet luxury brands – Lexus, Infinity and in the case of Honda itself Acura.

Yet all being told in spite of a well made car, composed of a long lasting rust resistant aluminum chassis Honda NSX models in vintage condition are hard to come by and find on eBay, Craigs List & Kijiji online.

Latest trial of the One Laptop Per Child running in India; Uruguay orders 100,000 machines

Posted on December 11, 2021December 12, 2021Categories Uncategorized

Thursday, November 8, 2007

India is the latest of the countries where the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) experiment has started. Children from the village of Khairat were given the opportunity to learn how to use the XO laptop. During the last year XO was distributed to children from Arahuay in Peru, Ban Samkha in Thailand, Cardal in Uruguay and Galadima in Nigeria. The OLPC team are, in their reports on the startup of the trials, delighted with how the laptop has improved access to information and ability to carry out educational activities. Thailand’s The Nation has praised the project, describing the children as “enthusiastic” and keen to attend school with their laptops.

Recent good news for the project sees Uruguay having ordered 100,000 of the machines which are to be given to children aged six to twelve. Should all go according to plan a further 300,000 machines will be purchased by 2009 to give one to every child in the country. As the first to order, Uruguay chose the OLPC XO laptop over its rival from Intel, the Classmate PC. In parallel with the delivery of the laptops network connectivity will be provided to schools involved in the project.

The remainder of this article is based on Carla G. Munroy’s Khairat Chronicle, which is available from the OLPC Wiki. Additional sources are listed at the end.

NHL: Penguins to remain in Pittsburgh

Posted on December 10, 2021December 11, 2021Categories Uncategorized

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell announced Tuesday morning that a deal had been struck between state and local officials and the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey franchise. The Penguins organization will formally announce the deal tonight, prior to the Penguins game against the Buffalo Sabres at the Mellon Arena. The deal will ensure that the Penguins will remain in the city with a 30 year lease on a new arena to be built in downtown Pittsburgh. The framework of the deal was constructed in an emergency meeting last Thursday in Philadelphia, when both government and franchise officials indicated that progress had been made, with the details laid out over the weekend. With the new deal, the Penguins organization would be expected to pay $3.8 million per year, as well as $7.5 million per year from both Don Barden, owner of Majestic Star Casino, and the state economic development fund. The Penguins organization has also been given the option of building a parking garage on property of the Pittsburgh Sports Authority between Centre and Fifth avenues, by contributing $500,000 per year.

The new arena is expected to cost approximately $290 million, and should be completed and ready to host hockey games by 2009. The Penguins will sign a temporary lease to keep the team at Mellon Arena until the new building is finished.

Airline Passenger Complaints: Poor Service, Bad Food, Lost Luggage.. Enough!

Posted on December 9, 2021December 10, 2021Categories It Solutions

Airline passenger complaints have always been increasing over the period of the time. The discontentment has been on the rise because of the experience that had to be memorable for the passenger went wrong for all the wrong reasons: mechanical problems, poor service, bad food, lost luggage, or any of a number of other problems that result in a significant inconvenience or financial loss. If you experience this kind of problem with your airline, you may want to deal with it by lodging a complaint with the airline or to one of the authorities that oversee air transportation.

Airline passenger complaints should be dealt with immediately. However taking the right steps is the key to the complaints. Therefore educating one about all the possible resources to resolve the problem should be the foremost step to deal with it.

Whenever you can identify a problem on the spot, your best option to file Airline passenger complaints will usually be to bring it to the airline’s attention and give them a chance to resolve the issue. If you are at the airport, then contact the airline’s customer service representatives, a manager, or some other employee who has the authority to immediately take care of your problem. If you are in flight, then contact the head flight attendant.

COMPLAINING:When passengers comment on airline service, most airlines do listen. They analyze and keep track of the complaints and compliments they receive and use the information to determine what the public wants and to identify problem areas that need special attention. They also try to resolve individual complaints.

Like other businesses, airlines have a lot of discretion in how they respond to problems. While you do have some rights as a passenger, your demands for compensation will probably be subject to negotiation and the kind of action you get depends in large part on the way you go about complaining.

If you can’t resolve the problem at the airport and want to file a complaint, it’s best to call or write the airline’s consumer office at its corporate headquarters. Take notes at the time the incident occurs and jot down the names of the carrier employees with whom you dealt. Keep all of your travel documents (ticket receipts, baggage check stubs, boarding passes, etc.) as well as receipts for any out-of-pocket expenses that were incurred as a result of the mishandling.

Here are few guidelines that a passenger should keep in mind while complaining to the airline

* Type the letter and, if at all possible, limit it to one page in length.

* Include your daytime telephone number (with area code).

* No matter how angry you might be, keep your letter businesslike in tone and don’t exaggerate what happened. If the complaint sounds very vehement or sarcastic, you might wait a day and then consider rewriting it.

* Describe what happened, and give dates, cities, and flight numbers or flight times.

* Send copies, never the originals, of tickets and receipts or other documents that can back up your claim.

* Include the names of any employees who were rude or made things worse, as well as anyone who might have been especially helpful.

* Don’t clutter up your complaint with petty gripes that can obscure what you’re really angry about.

* Let the airline know if you’ve suffered any special inconvenience or monetary losses.

* Say just what you expect the carrier to do to make amends. An airline may offer to settle your claim with a check or some other kind of compensation, possibly free transportation. You might want a written apology from a rude employee or reimbursement for some loss you incurred-but the airline needs to know what you want before it can decide what action to take.

* Be reasonable. If your demands are way out of line, your letter might earn you a polite apology and a place in the airline’s crank files.

If you follow these guidelines, the airlines will probably treat your complaint seriously. Your letter will help them to determine what caused your problem, as well as to suggest actions the company can take to keep the same thing from happening to other people.

In response to airline abuse and irresponsible behavior, this book will guide you with specific tools to file a complaint against airlines, talk about actual cases against airlines, laws and statutes, writing to your congressman about any concerns regarding mistreatment by airlines and inform you of different cases of airline related offenses.

This best selling book will teach you how to sue an airline, get legally compensated and show that you will not tolerate airline abuse. This 50 page comprehensive step by step book that will guide you in properly filing an airline complaint and receiving the compensation you deserve because of being mistreated by the rude, irresponsible, ignorant and careless behavior of airline staff.

Syrian-born youth killed while building bomb in Norway

Posted on December 7, 2021December 8, 2021Categories Uncategorized

Friday, August 19, 2005

A 17-year old Syrian-born youth was killed and his 19-year old brother seriously injured on Thursday by a bomb they are suspected of having been building in their Oslo flat. Several youths were being questioned by the police for suspected involvement.

The 19-year old brother is described as being in stable condition. Two women and one man, present but not injured when the suspected bomb exploded, are being questioned by investigators.

Police said they found instructions on making bombs downloaded from the internet at the scene. “At the scene we found written instructions on how to make explosives and some powder that the youngsters had mixed,” said police inspector Vidar Hjulstad speaking to Norwegian public radio NRK. [1]

A 20-year old Pakistani-born friend has been charged with illegal handling of expolosives and is being questioned by police.

The 17-year old has a large criminal record including 17 car thefts, threats, robbing a store, drug abuse and violence against a civil servant. He had reportedly been studying chemistry at Sofienberg Technical College.

Police said the target of the bombs might have been ticket machines on the Oslo transportation system, with the purpose of stealing the money they contain. “It looks most like [the dead 17-year old] had made the explosives to blow up ticket machines on the Oslo transport system,” said Oslo assistant chief of police Terje Kristiansen. He said a ticket machine in Oslo had recently been blown up. Police say they do not suspect any tie to Islamic extremism and Kristiansen said, “It looks like personal gain was the main cause.”[2]

A couple living near by anonymously said they had previously reported bomb-making activity at the apartment to police but had been ignored. They said ten people in total were involved in making bombs at the Oslo flat. “This is not the first explosion. We have heard many bangs and smelled lead or gunpowder afterwards,” the couple told Dagsavisen newspaper.[3] Kristiansen said he was not aware of their reports.

The entire apartment building has been evacuated as police investigate. They are said to be evaluating the risk of another accidental blast.
