Sweden’s Crown Princess marries long-time boyfriend
Posted on November 19, 2017November 19, 2017Categories Uncategorized
Monday, June 21, 2010
Sweden’s first royal wedding since 1976 took place Saturday when Crown Princess Victoria, 32, married her long-time boyfriend and former personal trainer, Daniel Westling, 36. The ceremony took place at Stockholm Cathedral.
Over 1,200 guests, including many rulers, politicians, royals and other dignitaries from across the world, attended the wedding, which cost an estimated 20 million Swedish kronor. Victoria wore a wedding dress with five-metre long train designed by Pär Engsheden. She wore the same crown that her mother, Queen Silvia, wore on her wedding day 34 years previously, also on June 19. Victoria’s father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, walked Victoria down the aisle, which was deemed untraditional by many. In Sweden, the bride and groom usually walk down the aisle together, emphasising the country’s views on equality. Victoria met with Daniel half-way to the altar, where they exchanged brief kisses, and, to the sounds of the wedding march, made their way to the the silver altar. She was followed by ten bridesmaids. The couple both had tears in their eyes as they said their vows, and apart from fumbling when they exchanged rings, the ceremony went smoothly.
Following the ceremony, the couple headed a fast-paced procession through central Stockholm on a horse-drawn carriage, flanked by police and security. Up to 500,000 people are thought to have lined the streets. They then boarded the Vasaorden, the same royal barge Victoria’s parents used in their wedding, and traveled through Stockholm’s waters, accompanied by flyover of 18 fighter jets near the end of the procession. A wedding banquet followed in the in the Hall of State of the Royal Palace.
Controversy has surrounded the engagement and wedding between the Crown Princess and Westling, a “commoner”. Victoria met Westling as she was recovering from bulemia in 2002. He owned a chain of gymnasiums and was brought in to help bring Victoria back to full health. Westling was raised in a middle-class family in Ockelbo, in central Sweden. His father managed a social services centre, and his mother worked in a post office. When the relationship was made public, Westling was mocked as an outsider and the king was reportedly horrified at the thought of his daughter marrying a “commoner”, even though he did so when he married Silvia. Last year, Westling underwent transplant surgery for a congenital kidney disorder. The Swedish public have been assured that he will be able to have children and that his illness will not be passed on to his offspring.
Westling underwent years of training to prepare for his new role in the royal family, including lessons in etiquette, elocution, and multi-lingual small talk; and a makeover that saw his hair being cropped short, and his plain-looking glasses and clothes being replaced by designer-wear.
Upon marrying the Crown Princess, Westling took his wife’s ducal title and is granted the style “His Royal Highness”. He is now known as HRH Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland. He also has his own coat-of-arms and monogram. When Victoria assumes the throne and becomes Queen, Daniel will not become King, but assume a supportive role, similar to that of Prince Phillip, the husband of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II.
Volvo announces all new car models electric or hybrid from 2019

Friday, July 7, 2017
On Wednesday, automobile company Volvo announced all of its cars to be released in 2019 onwards are to use some form of battery-powered engine, leaving conventional petrol-only vehicles altogether. The decision comes after Volvo announced in May their intent to cease production of diesel vehicles.
The chief executive of Volvo Cars, Håkan Samuelsson, said, “People increasingly demand electrified cars”. Volvo aims to release five new electric vehicle models between 2019 and 2021. While little has yet been revealed about them, the company has stated two of them are to be high-performance electric vehicles, branded as Polestars.
Other car models from 2019 may be plug-in hybrid or 48-volt “mild hybrid” systems. Audi and Mercedes-Benz are also releasing mild hybrid cars for the European market.
“This announcement marks the end of the solely combustion engine-powered car. Volvo Cars has stated that it plans to have sold a total of 1m electrified cars by 2025. When we said it we meant it. This is how we are going to do it,” Samuelsson said. Volvo is owned by Chinese automotive giant Geely, and China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has said by 2025 they want new vehicle sales to be 20 percent “new energy vehicles”.

A photographer has died after being run over by a car in Los Angeles, California, United States. The man, who was attempting to photograph the vehicle of Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber, has not been formally identified by police but was named as Chris Guerra by local media.
At approximately 17:45 PST Tuesday the driver of Bieber’s white Ferrari car was pulled over by police for a speeding offence on Interstate 405, near to Getty Center Drive. Reports indicate Guerra — a freelance photojournalist — had been pursuing this vehicle throughout the day, based on the incorrect assumption that Bieber was in the vehicle when it was actually rapper Lil Twist driving the car with another passenger onboard. Entertainment news website TMZ understands the photographer stopped his vehicle on the other side of Sepulveda Boulevard and attempted to take pictures of the police stop before crossing the road and continuing, prompting the California Highway Patrol police officer conducting the traffic stop to order him back across, twice. When he attempted to walk back across, he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The photographer was transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he subsequently died. He was reportedly aged in his 20s. In a statement, Bieber said “[w]hile I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim.” According to police, the driver of the vehicle that hit the photographer is unlikely to face criminal charges.
The incident has prompted Bieber to call for changes to laws surrounding the way in which members of the press work. “Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves”, he said.

Tips for Diabetics Dining Out
by
Felicity Jones
Achieving a healthy, balanced diet is one of the most difficult challenges facing a diabetic. Type 1 and 2 diabetics must always be mindful of what they are putting in their mouths. It is hard enough to eat the right foods at home, but going out to dinner at a restaurant poses another, more complicated challenge, especially for recently diagnosed diabetics. When dining out, diabetics must know the answers to two questions: What foods are okay to eat? What is the correct portion amount? These two questions are paramount to controlling one s blood sugar levels. It is best for those newly diagnosed to map out a dietary plan with their physicians; however, straying away from the plan now and then is expected. Up until a few years ago, restaurants did not provide nutritional information for their dishes. However, with more restaurants garnering criticism over their lack of healthy food options, they are beginning to list the amount of calories, fat, carbohydrates on their menus. This will not only allow diabetics to make conscientious decisions, but anyone who is concerned about his/her health. Fortunately, because of a bill passed in 2010, large restaurant chains are required to list nutritional information on menus and packages. Although this law places responsibility on every chain restaurant in America, smaller, locally owned restaurants are not required to list any nutritional information. For this reason, it is important to have a few guidelines for yourself before entering one of these restaurants. Arguably, breakfast is the trickiest meal of the day because if you do not choose carefully you could max out on your designated amount of carbohydrates for the day. In addition to a plethora of carbs, some breakfast foods are full of saturated and trans fats. This combination could be detrimental to your glucose levels. Rather than ordering a regular waffle, choose the healthier alternative of a whole wheat waffle. Whole wheat is more heart healthy than white flour. Choose turkey bacon instead of pork bacon. Turkey is a much leaner meat than pork. If you want to sweeten your oatmeal then add a few sprinkles of cinnamon. Cinnamon has been proven to help one s body use insulin more strategically. Finally for breakfast, limit your intake of fruit. Fruit is nutritious, but fruit possesses a large number of carbs. You should only eat between 3-4 servings of fruit daily so keep this in mind throughout your day. Lunch is easier to navigate through because you can stock up on low-carb vegetables and lean proteins. A grilled chicken salad with beans sprinkled on top is the ideal lunch because it is comprised of protein, fiber, and low in carbs. Replace your dressing of choice with two tablespoons of olive oil. Using olive oil in moderation can lower your risk of heart disease. Avoid red meat when deciding on what to eat for dinner. Fish is a great alternative to steak because it is another lean meat. Limit yourself when it comes to the complimentary bread basket and stay away from spreads such as butter and jam. Sweet potato fries are a better choice than the usual order of fries. Try having a serving or two of vegetables during dinner. You will feel fuller longer because they are packed with fiber. It is a misconception that diabetics cannot have sweets; however, if you do plan on indulging then limit the other sources of sugar you eat during the day. Better yet, split a dessert with a friend. Diabetes is best managed with moderation. Knowing measurements is vital to portion control. Keep this in mind when considering how much of something you should be eating: a cup is about the size of your fist, your palm represents 3 ounces, and the tip of your thumb measures about 1 tablespoon. Remember to eat around the same time every day. Doing this will keep your levels as stable as possible. It is important to test your levels before and after every meal using
diabetes supplies
. Your doctor should provide you with a range of good levels to aim for. Dining out no longer has to pose a predicament for those with diabetes. With a clear understanding of food, portion control, and your goals, dining out can be stress free again.

Australia’s Old Parliament House becomes heritage listed
Posted on November 18, 2017November 18, 2017Categories Uncategorized
Wednesday, June 21, 2006
Australian Prime Minister John Howard announced on Tuesday that Old Parliament House in Canberra has been heritage listed. It is the 31st entry on the National Heritage List.
The listing acknowledges the role the building has in shaping Australia’s culture and protects it from being modified in any way which could affect its historic value.
Old Parliament House served as the home of Australia’s parliament from 1927 until 1988, when it was relocated to the present parliament house. From 1901-1927, parliament met in Melbourne in the Victorian Parliament House (the state parliament was relocated for 26 years). Before being known as Old Parliament House, the building was known as Provisional Parliament House – as it was intended to be used for 50 years before a permanent building could be built.
In the 61 years the building was used as the seat of parliament, the government changed only seven times, and several new political parties were formed (the Liberals, Anti-Communist Labor Party, and the Australian Democrats).
Mr Howard said the building played an important part in Australia’s political history. “Old Parliament House will always be an important part of our political history with its rich collection of original furniture, art and memorabilia helping to illustrate the story of Australia’s political customs and functions,” he said.
According to Mr Howard, the National Heritage List lists sites which have helped shape the country. “The National Heritage List contains places that have played an important role in the development of our nation, such as Captain Cook’s landing place in New South Wales, Port Arthur in Tasmania and the Australian War Memorial in Canberra,” said the Prime Minister.
The building currently houses Australia’s National Portrait Gallery, and serves as a venue for receptions and exhbitions.

Currently, there are no reports of deaths or serious injuries following the landfall in Mexico. However, the storm caused major damage to some areas with very heavy rains shutting down many roadways and flooding many homes.
Overall Dean is being blamed for at least 20 deaths in the Caribbean.
The storm has since been downgraded to Category 1 status.

The exercise is named ‘Great Prophet 4’ and will involve shooting a variety of live missiles at targets. Reports say the drill will be conducted in several unknown locations and will last for several days. The exercise also falls on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

What is LASIK Revision Surgery?
In Los Angeles LASIK surgery is a very common procedure for vision correction. LASIK is a tried and tested procedure that has resulted in thousands of happy customers, glad to give up the use of contacts and glasses. The majority of people who receive LASIK report that they are satisfied with the results and report little to no complications.
However, as with most surgeries, there are always certain risks involved. Nothing in life is 100% risk free and this equally applies to laser eye surgery Los Angeles and beyond. LASIK is safe but complications do occur in a small minority of cases.
Some LASIK risks which have been reported are:
Infection
Poor night vision (see halos or starbursts around lights at night time)
Forward bulging of the centre of the cornea (Ectasia)
Haze
Dry eyes
Problems directly related to the epithelium flap
In some cases, patients who have turned to cheap or discount LASIK surgeries are more susceptible to complications. This is because either the doctor is not very experienced, or the technology used is out of date, and not as accurate.
Los Angeles LASIK specialist, Dr. Robert Maloney, of the Maloney Vision Institute in Bevelry Hills specializes in managing complications from vision correction surgery. He has had many patients come to him who had complications from a vision correction procedure done elsewhere, and had suffered from these complications for months or even years. LASIK revision surgery is an option for those who have had complications, or have had their vision change overtime, and need an adjustment.
Some techniques used to treat vision correction surgery complications include Custom-CAP and therapeutic Wavefront Guided LASIK.
Custom Contoured Ablation Pattern (Custom-CAP)
Custom-CAP is a laser procedure that uses a special computer program to design an ablation (tissue removal) pattern to correct irregularities in the surface of the cornea that were caused by earlier surgeries, such as improperly performed LASIK. This can correct the visual symptoms that were caused by the surface irregularities.
Therapeutic Wavefront Guided LASIK
This new technique may correct imperfections in eyes caused by prior vision correction surgery. Wavefront analysis of the eye yields the precise focusing errors that are then corrected by custom laser guidance.

Wikinews interviews Jim Hedges, U.S. Prohibition Party presidential candidate
Posted on November 17, 2017November 17, 2017Categories Uncategorized
Saturday, January 29, 2011
U.S. Prohibition Party presidential candidate Jim Hedges of Thompson Township, Pennsylvania took some time to answer a few questions about the Prohibition Party and his 2012 presidential campaign.
The Prohibition Party is the third oldest existing political party in the United States, having been established in 1869. It reached its height of popularity during the late 19th century. The party heavily supported the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which banned the sale of alcohol, and resulted in the US period known as Prohibition (1919–33). It was repealed in 1933. The party has declined since this period, but has continued to nominate candidates for the presidential election.
In 2003, the party split into two factions. Preacher Gene Amondson and perennial candidate Earl Dodge were nominated for the presidency by their respective factions. After Dodge’s death in 2007, the party reunified and named Amondson as its sole presidential nominee for 2008. During the election, Amondson was interviewed by Wikinews. He died in 2009, leaving an opening in the party for 2012.
Jim Hedges is a longtime Prohibition activist, who holds the distinction of the first individual of the 21st century (and the first since 1959) to be elected to a political office under the Prohibition Party banner. In 2001, he was elected as the Thompson Township tax assessor, and was re-elected to the post in 2005. He served until his term expired in 2010. Hedges declared his intent to run for the Prohibition Party presidential nomination on February 18, 2010. This marks his first run for the presidency.
