Excellent Conference Venues, The Ticket To Successful Corporate Events

As an event planner, you know that often the key to a successful conference or corporate event is finding the ideal conference venue for your corporate events.

Firstly, a corporate event can act as a great team building exercise within your company that will help keep employees motivated and on their toes. Secondly, it builds awareness amongst customers and clients on your company s brand and can be vital for a company s growth. This is why conference venues or meeting venues become an essential make-or-break element of a corporate event.

One of the best measurements in a conference venue s effectiveness is if it satisfies the majority of the people involved. The more people that are satisfied by the conference venue, the better the corporate event will proceed. Naturally, the content and effectiveness of your event is extremely important, however setting the right mood by using the perfect venue will be half the battle won.

Here are other measures to help you effectively find conference venues or meeting venues for corporate events:

Look At Previous Corporate Events

If the company has had corporate events in the past, secure a listing of their previous conference venues or meeting venues. Then find out if there has been any repeat business to these venues, this is a great indication that the venue has pleased both you and your attendees.

Find out the Budget

Find out the company s budget so you can have an estimated amount to work around. Itemise particulars in your budget list to avoid blowing the budget if unexpected bills come in.

Consider the Location

Location is a very important aspect, so you must consider the following:

Proximity

Make sure that conference venues meet the needs of the corporate events. For example if foreign delegates are expected, place the corporate event in a convenient location near the attendees accommodations. If the company is targeting a wider range of customers, you should look for conference venues that are easily accessible to a wider range of people, for example the venues proximity to public transport and taxi ranks.

Venue Size

This is another aspect you need to consider. Make sure that the venue is neither too small, making the area too cramped for the guests involved, nor so big that it gives the impression that the event is not very well-attended.

Setting

Generally, corporate events are best held in a venue that the event can take place without interruption from the general public. This can be achieved by choosing venues which offer all amenities, meeting rooms etc. in the one facility, however depending on the size of your corporate event and budget you may have some limitations to deal with.

Use Your Imagination

If you are holding a themed corporate event you should look for conference venues that will accommodate a themed party. It is best to check out if the venue can accommodate a stage, lighting etc., so that you can work with the venue to create a fabulous experience for your attendees. The venue will have experience with all sorts of different conferences so it might be worthwhile bouncing some ideas around with them.

Research the Internet

More and more conference venues are going online, making the search for a venue a lot easier and sometimes harder, as there are too many to choose from. How do you know that the promises and photos on the website are true indication of the conference venues facilities and service? Use your common sense and rely on word of mouth or contact one of many companies that do all of the legwork for you, from searching for the most suitable venues to booking your chosen venue for you. All you need to do is input your requirements making the task of finding a conference venue extremely hassle-free!

British soldier killed in Afghanistan

Posted on September 29, 2022September 30, 2022Categories Uncategorized

Wednesday, July 5, 2006

The Ministry of Defence has named a British soldier from the 3 Para Battle Group who died while on patrol in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province.

The soldier, 19 year-old Private Damien Raymond Jackson, of South Shields, Tyne and Wear, came under fire from Taliban forces in the town of Sangin. He died while being given treatment.

His father, Daniel Jackson said: “I wish everyone to know just how extremely proud I am of my son Damien – of all that he has achieved in his lifetime and of the fact that he died, when duty called, protecting others, in the service of his country.

“A fine, upstanding South Shields lad, Damien was immensely proud to have achieved his ultimate ambition in becoming a member of the finest regiment in the British Army.”

He also condemned the government’s policy in Afghanistan, saying that UK forces are in “dreadful danger”. “We fully support the British Army in Afghanistan whilst in no way supporting or condoning a government policy, which has placed our young men and women in such dreadful danger.”

Private Jackson’s death means six British soldiers have died in the unstable Helmand region in the last four weeks. Since 2001 when operations began in Afghanistan, thirteen British soldiers have lost their lives.

On Saturday, two British soldiers were killed after a rocket-propelled grenade struck the headquarters they were in.

Prime Minister Tony Blair said he would give more resources to British troops to assist them in their fight against the Taliban, but he said the British Army has not yet made such a request.

“If they need more, we will make sure that they get more,” he told the House of Commons during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday.

Along with the Conservative Party leader David Cameron, Mr Blair also commended the efforts of British soldiers by praising their “extraordinary and heroic job”.

“They are fighting a battle that I think is important not just for the security of Afghanistan. It is important for the security of the wider world,” the Prime Minister said.

Approximately 4,000 British soldiers are stationed in Afghanistan, and almost 3,000 of them work in Helmand Province.

In general, they are in Afghanistan to help train the country’s troops, provide security, and assist with reconstruction. As 20% of the world’s opium is produced in Helmand Province, the main task for troops there is to control drugs lords.

NYSE to merge with Archipelago; NASDAQ to buy Instinet

Posted on September 27, 2022September 28, 2022Categories Uncategorized

Sunday, April 24, 2005

New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) announced last Wednesday that it has agreed definitively to merge with Chicago-based Archipelago Exchange (ArcaEx) and form a new publicly traded, for-profit company known as NYSE Group. This announcement was followed two days later by NASDAQ®, which independently announced a definitive agreement to purchase Instinet Group.

Archipelago and Instinet are innovative e-trading (electronic trading) companies, and formerly were the two largest American rivals to NYSE and NASDAQ, in recent years taking increasingly large portions of their market share. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other regulatory agencies still have to review and approve the transactions, particularly with respect to US securities law and antitrust law, in order to ensure that the marketplace remains lawful and competitive.

Other pending issues for NASDAQ include obtaining the approval of Instinet shareholders, as well as customary closing conditions. NYSE must obtain the approval of its members and Archipelago shareholders.

These changes, a reaction to increased e-trading competition and a changed regulatory environment, will result in NASDAQ and NYSE trading each other’s shares and attempting to grab market share, which many hope will drive down transaction costs and ultimately benefit consumers. However, at least one commentator, Dan Ackman writing in Forbes, has noted that the trading commission at the NYSE currently averages less than a nickel (US$0.05) per share, and was less enthusiastic about potential efficiency gains from electronic trading at the exchange.

The transactions are also intended to make the two leading American stock exchanges more globally competitive with such exchanges as the London Stock Exchange, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the Toronto Stock Exchange, and the Australian Stock Exchange located in Sydney.

Interview: Danny O’Brien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation

Posted on September 27, 2022September 28, 2022Categories Uncategorized

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

January’s second Interview of the Month was with Danny O’Brien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) on 23 January in IRC.

The EFF is coming off a series of high-profile successes in their campaigns to educate the public, press, and policy makers regarding online rights in a digital world, and defending those rights in the legislature and the courtroom. Their settlement with Sony/BMG, the amazingly confused MGM v Grokster decision by the Supreme Court of the United States, and the disturbing cases surrounding Diebold have earned the advocacy organization considerable attention.

When asked if the EFF would be interested in a live interview in IRC by Wikinews, the answer was a nearly immediate yes, but just a little after Ricardo Lobo. With two such interesting interview candidates agreeing so quickly, it was hard to say no to either so schedules were juggled to have both. By chance, the timing worked out to have the EFF interview the day before the U.S. Senate schedule hearings concerning the Broadcast flag rule of the FCC, a form of digital rights management which the recording and movie industries have been lobbying hard for – and the EFF has been lobbying hard to prevent.

Making Foreclosure Prevention Work For You

Posted on September 26, 2022September 27, 2022Categories Mortgage Broker

Submitted by: David Faulkner

No one gets through life without having to face the consequences of his or her behavior. The manner in which we meet our responsibilities is the decisive factor in how pleasant or unpleasant those consequences will be, and failing to meet those responsibilities, whether they beat home, on the job, or in our communities, will produce some very unpleasant consequences. This is especially true when we cannot meet financial responsibilities.

If your financial responsibilities have become so burdensome that you are falling behind on your mortgage payments, the consequence could very well be foreclosure. But it does not have to be; there are methods for escaping foreclosure and if you research foreclosure prevention you may find a way out of your trouble.

Action Is Key

You should waste no time, after you realize that you are struggling to keep up with your mortgage payments, in acting. The first step you should take in foreclosure prevention is to face the foreclosure notice when it arrives, and consult a foreclosure prevention specialist. You will gain nothing by pretending everything is fine. Doing so, in fact, is the fastest way you have to bring financial disaster into the lives of you and your loved ones.

You can look of foreclosure prevention help online, researching foreclosure attorneys in your area to consult. But keep your eyes open for foreclosure prevention scams, which have risen in direct proportion to the soaring number of foreclosures in the US. You could be taken in by a fraud which will strip you of both your cash and your home, while leaving you still stuck with a foreclosure proceeding and wrecked credit.

In the Equity Skimming scam, a stranger will present you with an unsolicited offer to find a buyer for your home before it goes into foreclosure, contingent on your transferring your title to the party making the offer. Once you do so, and leave your home, it will be rented out for a while, as the person now holding the title collects the rent, and then abandons it without ever looking for a buyer. You have been robbed of your home, but are still liable for the mortgage.

Look For Debt Counseling

You can get foreclosure prevention assistance from debt counseling services, who can work to help you get a modified payment plan, advise you on refinancing or selling your home, or recommend a private lender who may be willing to help you. It is not at all unusual for a bank to be willing to work with a homeowner on foreclosure prevention, because no bank wants to end up having to pay to maintain and insure a foreclosed property while it sits empty. Know Your Rights

There are measures in place to serve as foreclosure prevention for you as a homeowner, and you will do yourself a big favor by learning what they are when you buy your next home. If you are offered the option of forbearance, recasting, or loan term modification based on the amount of equity you have built up in your home, give it your full consideration. You will have to live with the consequences of your decision, so it’s your responsibility to make sure the decision you make is well-informed.

US Nationwide Pollution Permit Restrictions Upheld

Posted on September 25, 2022September 26, 2022Categories Uncategorized

Wednesday, October 4, 2006

The US Army Corps of Engineers decision to place restrictions on issuance of nationwide pollution permits has been upheld by a federal court. In National Association of Home Builders v. Army Corps of Engineers, the District Court for the District of Columbia found that the Corps of Engineers had not acted in an “arbitrary” or “capricious” manner in changing the terms and conditions for issuance of a national pollution permit, including reducing the size of area into which pollutants may be discharged from 10 acres to 1 acre, raising the threshold for requiring additional permits from 1 acre to 1/10 acre,

A nationwide permit allows an organization to engage in certain industrial activities on a national basis (such as mining and construction), reducing the amount of paperwork and filings needed for otherwise minor environmental impacts, as opposed to an ordinary permit for a specific location which will engage in activities which generate water pollution.

Due to concerns over the amount of discharge taking place in waterways, the Corps of Engineers began in the 1980s to reduce the authority granted by nationwide permits and to bar use of the permits in certain ecologically sensitive areas.

Some industry groups, including the plaintiff in the above case, The National Association of Home Builders, sued the Corps of Engineers in 2000 over the change in an attempt to block its implementation. Environmental groups, including the Sierra Club, were given permission to intervene in the case in support of the actions of the Corps.

Environmental groups were pleased with the decision, but are concerned over other actions of the Bush Administration, such as the attempts to weaken provisions of the 2002 Clean Water Act to allow additional dumping of construction and mining waste into waterways as fill material.

London’s Metropolitan Police Service found guilty in suspected suicide bomber case

Posted on September 24, 2022September 25, 2022Categories Uncategorized

Thursday, November 1, 2007

London’s Metropolitan police force has been found guilty of endangering the public during an anti-terrorism operation that lead to the death of an innocent Brazilian man in July of 2005.

The British jury at Old Bailey convicted the police force of violating the Health & Safety legislation because the operation was deemed an excessive threat to the public. They also stressed that no individual culpability should be placed on Cressida Dick, the officer in charge of the operation. The police force was fined £175,000 and ordered to pay £385,000 for legal expenses.

“This was very much an isolated breach brought about by quite extraordinary circumstances,” said Justice Henriques. “One person died and many others were placed in potential danger.”

Sir Ian Blair, the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, was at Old Bailey to hear the verdict. He said he plans to “continue leading the Metropolitan police.” Len Duvall, chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority, said it “fully supported” Blair. A spokesperson for Gordon Brown said that Blair continues to have the confidence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

However, Asad Rehman, a spokesperson for the victim’s family, called for Blair’s resignation. “Whilst it was a difficult day, that does not mean that procedure and the Metropolitan Police did not fail,” he said.

Electrician Jean Charles de Menezes died in the Stockwell Tube Station after being shot in the head by police officers seven times. They mistook him for another man, Hamdi Adus Isaac (aka Osman Hussain), who failed in the July 21, 2005 attack on the London underground one day before.

Civil Engineers In Austin Are Responsible For A Safe Physical Environment

Posted on September 23, 2022September 24, 2022Categories Civil Excavation And Demolition Services

byAlma Abell

Civil engineers are responsible for ensuring that people have a functional and safe environment to live, work and play in. They design the roads that people use to get to work, and they certify that the buildings they work in are safe. In today’s complex world, there are very few physical elements that weren’t designed or certified by engineers. Civil Engineers in Austin even review parks and playgrounds. They ensure that the landscape won’t cause flooding onto neighboring properties and that the equipment is safe.

Because of these vast responsibilities, each state regulates the requirements it takes to be a civil engineer. Usually, a person must have an engineering degree from an accredited engineering program and pass a difficult state registration exam. Only people who meet all of the requirements are legally allowed to call themselves civil engineers. All of the plans they design must have their registration stamp. Most states require that they sign the plans as well.

Civil Engineers in Austin may become specialists. Transportation engineers specialize in designing and constructing safe roads, while structural engineers certify that buildings are sound. Hydrologists are engineers that specialize in how water moves through the ground. These specialties often merge, and engineers must work collaboratively. A transportation engineer has to know how to construct a road through difficult terrain. Often, they make steep cuts in the landscape that require retaining walls. The specification of the walls requires understanding how much water in the soil will press against the retaining wall.

Working with a large engineering firm such as Baker-Aicklen and Associates Inc., ensures that a client has access to all of the engineering specialties and that the engineers are used to working together. Local communities usually have boards and inspectors that review the work of engineers. Project managers are engineers that are adept at shepherding projects through the review phase. They can explain a complex project to the public who attend hearings. They can also explain to inspectors why they chose particular layouts, materials and structures.

During the construction phase, project managers keep all of the subcontractors working efficiently. It is their responsibility to make sure that the construction is done in accordance with the plans.

Senior UK politicians talk at Confederation of British Industry conference

Posted on September 23, 2022September 24, 2022Categories Uncategorized

Monday, November 21, 2016

UK Prime Minister Theresa May and opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn both spoke at the annual Confederation of British Industry conference today, talking about Britain after its planned ‘Brexit’ from the European Union, and future plans for business.

May formally announced plans to cut corporation tax from 20%, without giving details, in order to discourage businesses from leaving the UK post-Brexit. Corbyn said in his speech he believes investment by the government on things such as infrastructure improvements is shared ground between Labour and businesses but “businesses will need to contribute” meaning “some increase in corporation tax” under his administration.

Theresa May also toned down plans to put ordinary workers on corporate boards, a campaign promise from running to become leader of the ruling Conservative Party. She said she is working to create a “model that works for everyone” after consulting firms and the general public, with possible plans including panels or advisory committees. The General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress responded by saying “Theresa May made a clear promise to have workers represented on company boards […] This is not the way to show that you want to govern for ordinary working people.” Jeremy Corbyn also criticised this announcement saying “we need to see genuine employee representation at board level, which the prime minister promised, but I see is already backing away from.”

Theresa May also announced she wishes to spend £2Bn annually in research and development, as well as plans to start a small business research initiative to look into helping innovators get ahead. Jeremy Corbyn however said he plans to spend 3% of the UK’s GDP on R&D, significantly more than specified by May.

Jeremy Corbyn’s plans for the UK’s economy focussed on investment. Speaking at the conference he said “First and foremost, a Labour government will prioritise investing in our economy.” As well as the investment in research, Corbyn also promised funds for areas including house building and infrastructure. This would be controlled by the proposed “National Investment Bank”. Corbyn said “Our National Investment Bank will deliver long term strategic investment in our under-powered infrastructure and provide the patient finance that our businesses need across the country.”

May told the conference she would not give “a running commentary on every twist and turn” of the Brexit negotiations. This comes after allegation in the press that she she has no plan to keep under wraps, a claim that has been backed up by an alleged leaked internal government memo that talks about a “lack of overall negotiation strategy” within government.

China overtakes Germany as world’s biggest exporter

Posted on September 22, 2022September 23, 2022Categories Uncategorized

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Chinese officials have said that their country’s exports surged last December to edge out Germany as the world’s biggest exporter.

The official Xinhua news agency reported today that figures from the General Administration for Customs showed that exports jumped 17.7% in December from a year earlier. Over the whole of 2009 total Chinese exports reached US$1.2 trillion, above Germany’s forecast $1.17 trillion.

Huang Guohua, a statistics official with the customs administration, said the December exports rebound was an important turning point for China’s export sector. He commented that the jump was an indication that exporters have emerged from their downslide.

“We can say that China’s export enterprises have completely emerged from their all-time low in exports,” he said.

However, although China overtook Germany in exports, China’s total foreign trade — both exports and imports — fell 13.9% last year.
